Senior Backend Engineer
Applications are reviewed by the hiring team for the role.
About the role
Behind every system we ship, a hospital scheduling tool, a government workflow, a business platform, there's a set of APIs and services that have to be correct, fast enough, and boring in the best sense: predictable and hard to break. That's what this role is about.
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll own features from the first design conversation through to what's running in production, not just the part between a ticket and a pull request. You'll review other engineers' code, mentor the more junior people on the team, and have a real say in how we structure our services, our data models and our approach to operations. When something breaks in production at 2am, you're one of the people who can actually reason about why.
What you'll be doing
- Designing and building the APIs and services that power client systems, from initial architecture through deployment
- Owning features end to end: scoping the work, writing it, testing it, and watching how it behaves once real users touch it
- Reviewing pull requests and giving feedback that actually helps people improve, not just gatekeeping
- Mentoring junior engineers, through pairing, code review and just being available when they're stuck
- Contributing to architecture decisions: how services talk to each other, how we handle data, where the technical debt is worth paying down
What we're looking for
- Strong, demonstrable experience with at least one backend language and its ecosystem
- Real production experience with relational databases: schema design, query performance, migrations that don't take the system down
- Comfort running and operating systems in production, not just writing code and handing it off
- Experience reviewing code and giving feedback that other engineers actually want
- The judgment to know when to move fast and when a decision deserves more thought, especially on systems used by hospitals and government clients where mistakes have real consequences
Nice to have
- Experience mentoring or leading a small group of engineers
- Background working with systems that have strict uptime, compliance or data-sensitivity requirements
- Familiarity with our stack, or comparable experience that transfers quickly
This is a hybrid role based in our Amman office, with a mix of in-office collaboration and flexible remote time.
